Cleansol Liquid Blue 500 ml – how to use neel for white clothes

How to use neel (liquid blue) for white clothes – the right drops, no blue patches

A few drops of blue in the last rinse is one of the oldest laundry tricks in India – and still the cheapest way to make white shirts, uniforms and bedsheets look crisp again. Get the dose or method slightly wrong, though, and you get blue streaks instead. Here is exactly how much to use, when to add it and how to fix mistakes.

2–3 drops

per bucket of 8–10 L

Last rinse

never in the wash

Dilute first

never neat on cloth

Pale sky-blue

the right water colour

Quick answer: Wash and rinse your white clothes as usual. Fill a bucket with 8–10 litres of clean water, add 2–3 drops of liquid blue and stir until the water is evenly pale sky-blue. Dip the clothes one by one for a few seconds, squeeze and dry in the shade – no further rinse. In a machine, pre-mix 4–6 drops in a mug of water and add it to the last rinse.

What neel actually does

White cotton does not stay perfectly white. Sweat, body oil, hard water, detergent residue and plain age give it a faint yellow or creamy tint – even when it is clean. Blue and yellow are opposite colours, so a very light blue tint in the fabric cancels that yellow. The eye reads the result as a cleaner, crisper white.

✅ What neel does

Balances a slight yellow tint so whites look brighter and fresher.

❌ What neel does not do

Remove stains, dirt or deep yellow marks – it is not a bleach or detergent.

💡 So use it

As the last, finishing step on clothes that are already clean.

How much neel to use

Use Water Liquid blue
Bucket rinse 8–10 L 2–3 drops
Half bucket 4–5 L 1–2 drops
Home washing machine Last rinse 4–6 drops, pre-mixed in a mug of water
Commercial machine Per 100 L final-rinse water About 30 drops (1.5 ml)

Doses for Cleansol Liquid Blue (concentrated). Other brands differ – always start low. The water should look pale sky-blue, never dark blue.

Bucket method – step by step

1 · WASH FIRST

Wash and rinse the white clothes with detergent as usual.

2 · MIX

Add 2–3 drops to 8–10 L of clean water. Stir until the colour is even.

3 · DIP

Dip clothes one by one and swirl for a few seconds so every part is wet.

4 · DRY

Squeeze and dry in the shade. Do not rinse again.

💧 Tip: add the drops to the water and stir before putting any clothes in. Blue landing directly on wet cloth is the main cause of patches.

Using neel in a washing machine

Front-load: mix 4–6 drops in a mug of water and pour it into the softener compartment – the machine releases it in the last rinse.

Top-load and semi-automatic: let the last-rinse water fill, add the pre-mixed blue, let it mix for a moment, then run the rinse.

Never pour neat liquid blue into the drum or onto clothes. Concentrated blue sticks to the first fabric it touches and leaves patches.

Hotels, hospitals and commercial laundries

In a commercial wash, blue goes into the final rinse – after the main wash, the bleach step and the rinses – usually together with a fabric sour.

Stage What to add Cleansol product
Main wash Detergent (+ booster for oily linen) Ultra Detergent
Bleach step Whitener for white linen Fabric Whitener Liquid
Final rinse Neutralise leftover alkali & bleach Fabric Sour
Final rinse About 1.5 ml blue per 100 L, pre-diluted Liquid Blue

Blue patches or a blue tint? Here is the fix

Still wet?

Rinse straight away in plenty of clean water. Most excess blue comes out before the fabric dries.

Already dried?

Wash again with detergent in warm water. Repeat once or twice if needed.

Next time

Use fewer drops, stir the water fully, and never pour blue directly on cloth.

Neel vs fabric whitener vs oxygen bleach

Your whites are… Use Why
Clean but dull or creamy Liquid Blue in the last rinse Balances the yellow look
Stained, grey or clearly yellow Fabric Whitener Liquid soak, then blue Removes stains and yellowing
Whites and colours together Oxygen Bleach in the wash Gentle, safe on colour-fast clothes
Turn yellow after ironing Fabric Sour in the final rinse Removes alkali residue

Frequently asked questions

How many drops of neel in one bucket?

2–3 drops of a concentrated liquid blue in 8–10 litres of water is enough. Stir until the water is an even, pale sky-blue before you dip the clothes.

Should I add neel in the wash or the rinse?

In the last rinse, after the clothes are washed and rinsed. If you add it to the wash or wash again afterwards, the detergent takes the blue out.

Why do I get blue patches on white clothes?

Too much blue, blue poured directly on the fabric, or water that was not stirred well. Rinse at once in plenty of clean water. If it has dried, wash again with detergent in warm water.

Does neel remove stains or yellow marks?

No. Neel only changes how white the fabric looks by balancing a slight yellow tint. For stains and deep yellowing, use a whitener or oxygen bleach first, then finish with blue.

Can I use liquid blue in a washing machine?

Yes. Pre-mix 4–6 drops in a mug of water. Front-load: pour into the softener compartment. Top-load: add to the last rinse water. Never pour it neat into the drum.

Can I use neel with fabric softener?

Yes, in the same final rinse – but dilute the blue in water first and add it separately. Do not mix the two neat liquids together.

Is neel safe for coloured clothes?

It is made for white and light fabrics. Coloured clothes do not need it.

How often should I use neel?

For most homes, once a week or whenever whites start to look dull. Hotels and laundries usually add it in the final rinse of every white-linen wash.
