Cleansol Soda Ash Light (Washing Soda) – Sodium Carbonate 99% Powder
About this item
Cleansol Soda Ash Light (Washing Soda) is 99% min sodium carbonate (Na₂CO₃) – a fine, free-flowing white powder and one of the most useful alkalis in cleaning. Detergent makers use it to neutralise LABSA (acid slurry) and as the main builder in washing powder, detergent cake and dishwash powder. At home it softens hard water, boosts your detergent on dirt and grease, cleans washing-machine drums and lifts kitchen grime. Packs: 400 g jar, 3 kg bucket and 25 kg bag. Packed by Cleansol in Jodhpur since 2002.

For detergent makers
Soda ash does two jobs in a detergent: it neutralises the acid in LABSA to make the active surfactant, and the extra soda ash works as a builder – it softens hard water and raises the wash pH so the detergent cleans better.
| Product | Typical soda ash | Role |
| Detergent / washing powder | 20–40% | Neutraliser + main builder |
| Detergent cake / bar | 10–25% | Neutraliser + builder, helps the cake set |
| Dishwash powder / bar | 5–15% | Grease cutting, water softening |
| Floor & degreaser powders | 10–30% | Alkaline cleaning power |
Rule of thumb: about 15 g of soda ash neutralises 100 g of LABSA 90%. Everything above that acts as builder. Check every batch with pH strips – a 1% solution of finished powder normally reads pH 10–11.
Making washing powder – the basic method
- In a dry plastic tub, spread the soda ash and slowly add LABSA 90%, mixing all the time. It warms up and fizzes – that is normal.
- Keep mixing until the mass turns dry and crumbly, then check the pH.
- Blend in STPP, sodium metasilicate, sodium sulphate, CMC and optical brightener.
- Add perfume and speckles last, let it dry, sieve and pack airtight.

Home and other uses
| Use | How much | How |
| Laundry booster | 15–30 g per load | Add with your normal detergent – more cleaning in hard water |
| Bucket soak (dirty clothes) | 2 tbsp (≈30 g) per 10 L | Soak 30 min with detergent, then wash |
| Washing-machine drum clean | 50–100 g | Empty drum, hottest or drum-clean cycle |
| Floors & bathroom tiles | 15–20 g in 4–5 L water | Mop or scrub, then rinse |
| Greasy pots, chimney filters | 2–3 tbsp in 1 L hot water | Soak 20–30 min, scrub, rinse |
| Tie-dye / reactive dyeing | 50–60 g per litre | Pre-soak cotton 20 min so the dye fixes |
| Swimming-pool pH increaser | ≈40–50 g per 10,000 L raises pH by ~0.2 | Dissolve in a bucket first, add in small steps, retest after 6 hours |
Industrial users also use soda ash for water and effluent pH correction, textile scouring, and glass and silicate manufacture. Ask us for 25 kg bulk pricing.
Soda ash, washing soda, baking soda or caustic soda?
| Product | What it is | Strength |
| Soda ash (this product) | Anhydrous sodium carbonate, 99% | Strong alkali – the concentrated form |
| Washing soda crystals | Sodium carbonate with water of crystallisation | Same chemical, but only ~37% Na₂CO₃ – you need about 2.7× more |
| Baking soda | Sodium bicarbonate | Mild – deodorising, gentle scrubbing |
| Caustic soda | Sodium hydroxide | Very strong and corrosive – for soap making and drains |

- Fizzes strongly with acids – add acids slowly, in a ventilated area.
- Not for aluminium, wood, silk or wool.
- Industrial grade – not for food or medicinal use. Keep out of reach of children and pets.
- Store tightly closed in a dry place – it absorbs moisture from the air and can form lumps.
Frequently asked questions
Is soda ash the same as washing soda?
Yes – both are sodium carbonate. Soda ash is the dry (anhydrous) form and is much stronger than washing soda crystals, which contain a lot of water.
What is the difference between light and dense soda ash?
Same chemical, different particle size. Light soda ash is a fine, fluffy powder that blends well in detergent powders and cakes. Dense soda ash is granular and is mainly used in glass making.
How much soda ash do I need to neutralise LABSA?
About 15 g of soda ash for every 100 g of LABSA 90%. Most washing-powder recipes use much more, because the extra soda ash works as the builder.
Can I use soda ash in the washing machine?
Yes. Add 15–30 g with your detergent for a normal load. For a drum clean, run 50–100 g in an empty drum on the hottest cycle.
Is it the same as baking soda?
No. Baking soda is sodium bicarbonate, a much milder alkali. Soda ash is far stronger and is not for cooking.
Can I use it to raise pool pH?
Yes. Dissolve it in a bucket of water, add it in small amounts across the pool, and retest after about 6 hours before adding more.
Do you supply in bulk?
Yes – 25 kg bags. WhatsApp 98290 05860 with your monthly requirement for a factory price.
