Cleansol Sulfamic Descaling Powder
About this item
Cleansol Sulfamic Descaling Powder is a fast-dissolving, sulfamic acid–based descaler that removes white limescale, hard-water scale and mineral deposits from kettles, coffee and espresso machines, steam irons, geysers, tea urns, food warmers, boilers, taps and shower heads. Scale on a heating element wastes energy and slows heating; one descaling restores water flow and heating speed. Below is an exact dose for every appliance – from a 500 g jar for the home to 25 kg bags for hotels and industry. Made by Cleansol in Jodhpur since 2002.
Sulfamic acid–based · Fast dissolving · Low residue · Non-flammable
Dissolve in warm water → fill or soak → wait → rinse 2–3 times. Exact doses below.
Dose chart – how much to use
| Appliance | Dose | Contact time |
| Electric kettle | 15–20 g in 500 ml warm water | 20–30 minutes |
| Coffee / espresso machine | 15–20 g in 500 ml warm water, run through the machine | 20–30 minutes, then 2 plain-water cycles |
| Steam iron | 10–15 g in 250 ml warm water in the tank | 5–10 minutes, then rinse tank twice |
| Humidifier | 10–15 g per 1 litre water | 20–30 minutes |
| Geyser | 40–50 g per 1 litre water | 30–45 minutes |
| Buffet water boiler · tea urn | 30–40 g per 2 litres water | 30–45 minutes |
| Bain-marie · food warmer | 40–50 g per 2 litres water | 45–60 minutes |
| Taps · shower heads · aerators | 40–50 g per litre soak, or a thick paste on the scale | 15–20 minutes, then brush |
| Boilers · heat exchangers · water lines | 40–50 g per litre, circulate | 30–60 minutes, then flush well |
Heavy scale? Repeat once, or increase the dose slightly. Fizzing is normal – it means the scale is dissolving.
Always use warm water – not boiling. Sulfamic acid works best between 40 and 60 °C. Boiling water weakens it, so switch off and let the water cool slightly before adding the powder.
How to descale – step by step
- Switch off and unplug the appliance. Let it cool to warm.
- Dissolve the dose from the chart in warm water (40–60 °C) in a plastic or glass jug.
- Fill, circulate or soak as per the chart. Leave for the contact time.
- Drain and rinse thoroughly with clean water 2–3 times. For kettles and coffee machines, boil or run plain water once and discard it.
- For taps and shower heads, brush off loosened scale and rinse.

- Use in a ventilated area; avoid breathing the fizz from heavy scale.
- Always rinse appliances 2–3 times with clean water before reuse.
- Keep tightly closed in a cool, dry place – moisture makes the powder lump. Keep away from children. Not for drinking.
Frequently asked questions
How much descaler do I need for my kettle?
15–20 g (about 1 heaped tablespoon) in 500 ml of warm water. Leave 20–30 minutes, empty, rinse, then boil plain water once and discard it.
Can I use it in my coffee or espresso machine?
Yes. Dissolve 15–20 g in 500 ml warm water, fill the tank and run it through. Then run 2 cycles of plain water before making coffee. Follow your machine maker's descaling programme if it has one.
Why should I not use boiling water?
Sulfamic acid works best at 40–60 °C. Very hot or boiling water weakens it, so the descaling is slower.
How often should I descale?
In hard-water areas, every 1–2 months for kettles and coffee machines, and every 3–6 months for geysers and urns. Descale earlier if you see white scale or slower heating.
Is it safe for my appliance?
It is made for stainless steel, copper, brass, glass, ceramic and plastic parts. Avoid natural stone and test aluminium or zinc-coated parts first. Always rinse well.
Is it the same as Sulfamic Acid Powder?
This is a ready descaler with simple doses for appliances. Our Sulfamic Acid Powder is the technical-grade raw material for formulators and industry.
