Dose chart
| Water in tank | Tank disinfection (label dose) | Drinking water (milder dose) |
|---|---|---|
| 500 L | 1 × 5 g | 1 × 5 g – use for washing first * |
| 1,000 L | 1 × 10 g | 1 × 5 g – use for washing first * |
| 2,000 L | 1 × 20 g | 1 × 5 g |
| 5,000 L | 2 × 20 g + 1 × 10 g | 3 × 5 g |
| 10,000 L | 5 × 20 g | 3 × 10 g |
* For tanks under 1,500 L even one 5 g tablet is stronger than drinking strength. Let the water stand and use it for washing and bathing first; drink only after a chlorine test kit reads 0.2–1 mg/L at the tap.

How to use
- If the tank has sludge or slime, wash the empty tank first (see our tank cleaning guide).
- Fill the tank and note the litres of water in it.
- With dry gloves, drop the correct number of tablets into the water.
- Let them dissolve fully, then wait at least 30 minutes before using the water.
- Treat again only when fresh, untreated water is added.
Good to know
- Disinfects only: it does not reduce TDS or hardness, and does not remove sand, silt, rust, heavy metals or chemicals.
- Drinking water: drink only when free chlorine at the tap is 0.2–1 mg/L (BIS IS 10500). For drinking and cooking, we recommend an RO/UV purifier and a one-time lab test of your source water.
- Safety: handle with dry gloves. Never mix with acids, toilet cleaners or other chemicals. Store closed in a cool, dry place, away from children and moisture.
Frequently asked questions
How many chlorine tablets for a 1,000 litre tank?
For tank disinfection, 1 × 10 g tablet (or 2 × 5 g). For drinking water, add one 5 g tablet, use the water for washing first, and drink only once it tests 0.2–1 mg/L.
How long should I wait before using the water?
Let the tablet dissolve fully, then wait at least 30 minutes.
Is the water safe to drink after treatment?
The tablets disinfect water, but drinking safety also depends on your source water. Use the milder drinking-water dose, check free chlorine at the tap (0.2–1 mg/L), use an RO/UV purifier for drinking, and get the water lab-tested once.
Which tablet size should I buy?
5 g suits most homes and drinking-water use. 10 g and 20 g are convenient for larger tanks, societies, schools and hotels.
Do chlorine tablets reduce TDS or remove dirt?
No. They only disinfect. Use an RO system for TDS, and clean or filter the tank for dirt and rust.
Can I use them in a swimming pool?
No – pools need a different dose and pool-grade chlorine. See our pool chlorine guide.
